Shed

We have been dying to put in a shed since we moved in but we needed a pretty custom size. Well we found one at lowes that happened to be the exact dimensions for the spot where we wanted to put the shed. So this weekend, I went to work!

too much stuff!
Here is where we wanted to squeeze in the shed. It's exactly 7' from the fence to the  door. And it's about exactly 7' from the deck post to the house.

Here is the shed in the box. It's a "resin" shed (aka plastic shed).  It is exactly 7' by 7' and 2 inches so I had to take out the fence in order for it to fit just right.
I took down one section of fence by cutting the nails from the post using a sawzall. Then I removed the post that was against the house.

Here is the lumber and gravel for the base. I bought five 4x4 pressure treated posts and two 3/4 inch sheets of pressure treated plywood and 6 bags of gravel to lay down the posts on the ground. This is supposed to slow down rot from direct ground contact and improves drainage under the shed.

I dug out trenches for each post, then poured in some gravel. The gravel not only helps with drainage, but also make is easier to level the posts. Leveling the posts turned out to be a bit of bear. That was the most time consuming and back aching job. It took about 3 hours just to do that part.

All the posts are now laid down and level so that I can now cut and lay down the plywood sheets right accross the posts. Supposedly, you are supposed to have some gap between the ground to ventilate the bottom the base to prevent rot. I only left a couple inches of clearance because I didn't want the shed elevated too high for aesthetic reasons.

I used this handy little cart to haul the dirt from the trenches  that I dug for each post up to the wooded area behind our backyard. These weighed probably 250 pounds so it was tough getting these pulled up the little hill behind our townhouse. I had about 6 cart loads and I am still sore from this!

It was satisfying to finally get the base laid down!

I used the halogen lights the night before because I wanted to finish screwing the plywood to the posts so I could get started putting the shed together the following day.

Our downstairs neighbor Shane helped me put together the shed, so it went up pretty quickly which is why I didn't get any progress pictures of the shed being put together. It went together pretty nicely and I thought it looked pretty sharp! It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the ridge of the roof is touching the bottom of the deck and the roof ledge is touching the post of the deck. There was literally not a single inch to spare here!

Noah loves the little gap between the shed and fence and he likes to use it as a shortcut to the front yard or to just peek through to see whats going out outside the yard. For that reason, I might not even fill in that gap...we'll see.

Here's Noah saying CHEESE!!! He gets very enthusiastic about saying cheese. Maybe it's because he LOVES cheese. Next time I'll have him say "vegetable".
